I never really expected this spike to bloom out but it did! I got it in August as a traveling companion to my Project 4 plant. It had 3 spikes, 2 of which blasted within a couple of weeks of arrival. I had to perform numerous little "surgeries" to release the sheaths on the remaining spike. The spike is approx. 24" tall and bears 2 flowers. These pictures really don't do justice to the color. The flowers are slow to open all the way. I'm not sure if it's because of the cooler temps or something else. From what little information I've found on this plant it has L. anceps on both sides of it's parentage. Thanks for looking. :)

Really neat! Don't you just love TC's?

LOL Ross, if I had know how big this guy was I probably wouldn't have ordered it. But it is very pretty so I guess that makes up for it being a space hog.

Wow that is a beauty! I have eyeballed this one for quite some time, I am glad you mentioned the size, otherwise I would be ordering it...lol.

Ross, All these initials! I guess I'm behind the times but I need to learn what all these initials stand for. What are TC's? Yesterday I had to ask about pk's! Thanks for enlightening me.

Way to go, Terri
You and I had the same situation with the sheaths upon arrival. I'm still looking at new growths and sheaths but haven't seen any buds yet :( I'm happy to see you got yours to bloom...it gives me hope :)

Shirley,
A T.C. in Orchidboard language is a Traveling Companion...a plant or two or six that travel along with the project plants chosen in our OB projects so the project plant isn't lonely on the trip ;)

What is a pk? :scratchhead:

Shirley 12-21-2007 07:49 PM

Thank you, Susanne! It just never occurred to me that orchids had travelling companions but now it all makes sense. :coverlaugh:

Becca, Santa Barbara Orchid Estate has one called L. Little Sunset. The flower looks very similar and the plant is half the size of this one. Different parentage, but still very pretty.
