Lowes Find- Den Spectabile
8 Attachment(s)
I was perusing the indoor houseplant section of Lowes before I went outside to find some annuals and pottery. I looked at the sparse selection of orchids (weird considering EVERYWHERE else has tons for mothers day). There was two Dendrobium Spectabile bag babies. Cool! I love phal's but I knew this was a cool Den. I ended up leaving with no orchid, but I got up this morning with a mission to rectify that. $10 happily spent. I brought her right home and repotted her. I really have no experience with Den's. Not sure if the wrinkled canes are good or bad. But her leaves and roots looked good. There is even two new growths. (These are not wrinkled) You can see the bigger one in one of the pictures I uploaded. From what I understand this plant will get fairly large, but that is okay. And is likely far from flowering, I can handle that too. If it survives in my care I will be happy. Any tips or suggestions will be appreciated.

These like media remaining lightly moist, so make sure it isn't drying out excessively. |

Thanks for the tip WhiteRabbit. I will have to remember that. I am a sporadic waterer. Hopefully you find one Kindrag23!

Lowes Find- Den Spectabile
This plant likes bright light and high humidity. Quarantine your plant, for a period of three to four weeks. I bought my version of this plant last summer--same bag baby format. It came with mealy bugs--which did not emerge until after two weeks. I used insecticide soap spray when I saw those little white suckers, zapped them immediately--after putting them under a water spray. Then repeated spray about five days later and repeated a third time. I do not think they came from the nursery that way but Lowes has so many plants that any plant is suspect.

Very surprising that Lowes had it. Congrats.
Erica, m'dear, "fairly large" is an understatement. One I see yearly at the shows near me is at least 5ft tall and at least 3ft in diameter. |
I saw one at lowes last year however I had no idea they were so rarely foind or inwould have been all over it.
