Warning: new Neo addict

You know, you people really ARE bad influences....Now, thanks to you, I've added Neos to my orchid addiction....

Came home with 5 (yes, FIVE) from the orchid show in Columbus today, courtesy of New World Orchids (great people, great plants, great selection, and they take plastic--what more could I ask?)...

So, I picked up a Hiroba Furan that's already started new growth, couldn't resist the Higashidemiyako for the pale leaf margins, then saw the pink/purple root tips on the Youridoushi and the purple leaf markings in Tamakongo, and the pink-flowered Benisuzume somehow found its way into my hands as well....And best of all (since I'm out of shelf space), they all fit on the ledge formed by the lower sash of my windows. Hmmmm, there's probably room for a couple dozen more....

Did I mention that you people are BAD influences?

I went to an orchid show today, and there was not a single neo there at all! I fully intended to come home with one!

I have been holding off on ordering a neo online, in hopes that I could get one that had been grown locally by someone else... but now I'm just gonna go order the plants I want. LOL!

I know....I've already found the threads about making pots....

Congratulations! I think every collection needs at least one (or three) Vanda falcata to be complete. :)

Or four or five or.....

You know, I fantasize about hitting the lottery and being able to go to these shows and say "I'll have one of each."

There's something about these orchids--the hybrids with them are nice, but the species in all its varied forms has a character and delicacy that seems to me to be lost in hybridization. Guess I'm a convert.

I have acquired 8 (6 are mine and 2 belong to my kids) in the past two weeks. They all came from New World. The good news is that they fit nicely on windowsill ledges! On my " neo ledge" I have room to easily fit 6 more without having to crowd them!

Congrats on your new purchases! And if you feel the urge to buy more neos you can come to the Michigan Orchid Society's show April 12th and 13th. New World, Hausermann's and Ecuagenera are just some of the vendors that will be there.

Well, it's probably good for my family budget that I am at a coaching clinic that weekend, otherwise.....Hmmm, groceries or orchids--tough choice....After all, I DO keep saying I need to lose weight.

Welcome to the club! Make sure to set aside a good portion of your paycheck each month. You'll need it! :D
