Laelia purpurata var. anelata

This variety is characterized by a well defined purple ring in the throat, as can be seen in detail below, which makes it a very desirable flower.

Mauro,
This variety is amazing. Definitely on my must have list. However, I have to know, do you buy these plants when they are already blooming (so you know what youre getting) or do you buy them as seedlings and hope for the best??

Oh Mauro....I'm green with envy...for your flowerings and for the place where you live.....the paradise of Laeliinae. I can only imagine the great range of orchid that you can see in the nature and the easy growing of them due to the perfect combination of light, humidity and temperature.
Congrats for this beautiful Laelia and other orchids too.

Ciao

Both things, Steve. When I see a must have, a variety of singular beauty, shape or color I will only buy it already in bloom, so that I am sure of what I'm taking home. But, I also really love raising little seedlings of selected parents like, for just an example, two good anelata, or two vinicolor etc. This is an excellent way of having things that nobody else has. Raising seedlings will always be a lottery, but this, amongst so many other things, is what makes growing orchids so fun.

Massimo, I am blessed I live in what you properly call the paradise of Laeliinae. It is a profusion of colors, forms, perfumes, varieties, sizes and so on. But, as always, here or wherever you go, you have to know choosing what grows well depending on your own conditions.

Mauro,
I don't want to argue with you, but this beauty is more an "argolão", instead of an "anelata", isn't it?

Frederico, I don't recognize any difference between 'Argolão' and 'Anelata'. For me they are absolutely the same variety. This is also what teaches F. J. Krackowizer in his prestigious 'Monografia da Laelia purpurata, suas Variedades e seus Híbridos' (Monography of Laelia purpurata, its Varieties and Hybrids). I think that they are pushing a little creating a new variety simply based on how narrow or large the ring is.
Anyway, if one accepts both as valid varieties then yes, this would be 'argolão'.
