Tuberolabium kotoense
 

This little cutie gives off enough fragrance to scent half the orchid room! This go-round she gave me 4 spikes rather than the previous times when I only got one :dance13: Two of the spikes are about 5 inches long, one is about 3 inches and the fourth is kind of stunted...I'm not expecting any buds on it :scratchhead:
The blooms are 1/4 inch in size.

The odd thing about this one? It literally takes months for the buds to start forming and actually bloom after the spike grows! It is by far the longest wait of all the 'chids I have!

Beautiful plant and blossoms. Mine blasted early in it's growth. How old is yours? It certainly is HUGE compared with mine.

I got this right after we chose and ordered our project plant for OB Project 2, so it was August '06.

Last year, I got one spike. A few months ago, it produced just one spike...which blasted :(
When I noticed a new spike growing on the left, I was thrilled...only to find out a few weeks later that there were three more growing on the other side of the plant under the leaves!

I just wish I knew why the one spike stunted the way it did :scratchhead: It's only about an inch long although it's green and healthy looking.

LOL...the tortore is watching for when the buds start growing into more than just little bumps along the spike...and then watching those open!

Susanne, have you tried Aerangis citrata yet? Mine had a small (3") spike when I received it in October or so and now that spike is a foot long and 2 more spikes 1" long, or so, have formed. The long spike still has very slight bumps and is still elongating. No signs of the buds swelling yet. Does the Tuberolabium take this long?

The spike that blasted was in June...the existing spikes popped up in July! :faint: It bloomed yesterday ;)

Cool plant you have there, Susanne! It also looks very healthy. Congrats on your four spikes!
I know what you mean when you say it takes forever... I have a plant of Baptistonia echinata that starts the floral stem in the middle of February, more or less, to only bloom in September! It takes centuries for that plant open its flowers!!!
