New Cymbidium...fungus or OK???

3 Attachment(s)
My Beloved bought a new NoID Cymbidium at the grocery store with FOUR bloom stalks. He remembered that I love orchids with lots of unopened blooms but didn't know to look for general health.

I'm not TOO concerned about the yellowing of several leaf tips but there is BLACK SPOTTING that has me worried about fungus or some sort of infection.

I've included pictures that I hope will help. For now, I have the orchid isolated in our WEST window in the dining area. The rest of my orchids are on the other side of the house in EAST windows.

I am sorry I am blind to see clearly. But my general rule is I keep everything away from my set babies when it comes to new ones. I quarantine the all new babies to verify no illness.

Good luck! Cant wait for the blooms!

Good point. Thanks for the reminder that regardless of how a plant looks, if it's new, it belongs away from the current "healthy" babies for a time.

What a nice gift!

Cyms can be prone to some fungal leaf spotting, which doesn't seem to spread to other plants - I don't think this looks too worrisome, but I am, for better or for worse, a "wait and watch" kind of person. It certainly can't hurt to keep it isolated for the time-being, and watch it.

When I have Cyms with fungal-y looking leaf tips, and it seems to be spreading down the leaf, I do cut those off ...

Hopefully some other members can chime in!

I wouldn't worry about it. Most noid whatevers always have some type of blemish on them. You can keep it prominently displayed and still keep it quarantined. But I would worry. Damned nice of your sweetee to give you an orchid. I'd keep him.

Sonya and James,
Thanks for the reassurance. I'll be able to compare Then & Now status when I get back from Georgia playing with the youngest grandsons. The new orchid is on the dining table where my beloved can see it and think of me while I'm away.

I'll post pictures when I get back on the 28th...I anticipate lots of blooms by then!

....and YES, he is definitely a KEEPER!!!
