Mislabeled Orchid
3 Attachment(s)
I purchased this orchid from a vendor at the Brevard County Orchid Societies' show. When I got home, I discovered it was unlabeled. I contacted the vendor and he gave me the name Cynoches wine delight. That clearly is not correct, now that it's starting to bloom. I got no response from a follow email to the vendor. I am not unhappy in the least with the purchase, I just want to know the correct name.
Can I get some help with a suggested name please? :scratchhead: |
:yikes: Definitely NOT Wine Delight! :faint:
This plant looks very familiar, I just can't place where I've seen it. Hopefully, one of two things will happen now: 1. somebody else here on OB will come up with your answer OR 2. my brain will kick in and come up with where I've seen it! |
This plant is awsome!!!
|
Contact the vendor again - with the pictures. I'll bet you get a positive ID.

It looks very similar to a Cycnoches herrenhusanum. Perhaps it is a hybrid of that plant ? Just guessing here.
Which vendor did you buy it from ? Perhaps they have a website with photos of their plants... |
Well the vendor finally responded, he was surprised that is was not a Cycnodes wine delight. It came in a shipment from Hawaii, and he will try and find out the correct name. It is almost definitely a Cycnoches. I looked up pictures for as many as I could find, several are similar, the closest being either warzscewiczii or chlorochilon, or quite possibly a hybrid of one of these. Now that the flowers have fully opened the fragrance is starting to get much stronger. It subtlely reminds me of the nice scent of barbershop cologne! LOL

A positive ID was received this morning. The vendor says it's a Cynoches Wine Delight varietal Yellow Swan Orchid wiz says it should be Cycnodes rather than Cynoches.
|
just the same, it's an AMAZING plant! Very cool!
|
well, not really the same... Cycnodes is an intergeneric hybrid... but as both Mormodes and Cycnodes has similar needs, you can grow it like a Cycnoches... :)

It looks familiar
http://www.orchidboard.com/community...umbo-puff.html Cycnodes Jumbo Puff was produced 2004 by Orchid. Flor as a hybrid of Cycnoches warscewiczii (pod parent) and Mormodes badium (pollen parent). Cycnodes Taiwan Gold howewer looks very similar. It was produced by Jumbo Orchids in Taiwan 2001 as a cross between Cycnoches warscewiczii and Cycnodes Jumbo Jewel (which is Cycnoches haagii x Mormodes badium). Photos here http://abbc-biotech.com/upload_files/wc/upload9024.JPG and http://www.gardenbanter.co.uk/attach...&d=1197146050d Both of them are fragrant. Good catch, you lucky bastard ! |
