Two Rescued White Phalænopses

Hi.

I walked in to K mart the other day and lo and behold there were a few Phals at the entrance looking sad. They had little hearts on their labels so I can only assume they were left over from Valentine's Day.

Well, having just moved back overseas, saying goodbye to all my plants at my old place, I decided that these plants needed a caring home and that I was just the man to give it to them.

I got them just as they were starting to decline, so time will tell if it was too late or not. I've repotted them and pampered them, so now we wait and see if they will respond.

They are very pretty and lucky you found them :)
Best of luck with them! Hoping my walmart rescues do well.
So it's ok to re-pot when orchids are in flower? I'm still learning. I was waiting on my walmart rescues to lose all the flowers before repotting.

Most OB members will tell you to get the thing out of its pot and have a look at its roots soon, as there could be rot down there which could kill the whole thing.

These weren't too bad, but I did cut off a fair number of brown or shriveled roots. The plant had been packed into a pot stuffed with sphagnum moss which could have easily suffocated them if kept too wet.

They are starting to react a bit today to the shock of whatever they've been through up until now. Leaves are going limp and leathery. This will be the toughest part: trying to keep this downward spiral from turning into a hopeless situation.

They say not to buy rescue plants, and I understand why. This will be a learning experience, and hopefully the plants will live through it.

Thanks! I'm going to repot them soon, only 2 flowers left on each. My 1st orchid is doing so well after it's repot that I have growth on one spike I left. I'm so excited :)

Sure with your orchid growing knowledge these plants will survive and next flowering will reward you. Now they are at home!!! :)

Well would you lookie there...after readjusting to its new environment, one Phal has decided it's not done blooming!

Seems they have adjusted just fine then :) Woohoo

The other one is not looking as good. Leaves turning yellow. My guess is that the existing flowers might be sucking the energy out of the plant, although unlike its buddy, it is not producing any more. Don't want to remove its spike yet, though! Will give it a bit more time.

Also, after reading that most big-box phals are infected with viruses, I will think twice about buying 'rescue plants' in the future. I'm just wondering about these.
