State of my Phals...
8 Attachment(s)
I got the three regular Phals in the summer. The three minis were clearance, waterlogged rescues.
I feed them weekly, weakly, mostly Miracle Gro, and at times alternating with 20-20-20- and a couple of times lately I gave them a Blooming fertilizer, I think it's made by the same Miracle gro company. Oh and yesterday I gave them cooled water that I had boiled a banana skin in. Just a tiny dribble 'cos I was scared  The one with the roots sticking up into the air, came with those roots like that, and I just never dared to force them down for fear of breakage. When do you think they will spike and bloom? Any suggestions and advice would sure be welcome :) Thanks in advance! |
Wow. They look really nice, as far as I can tell, for rescues.
Did u give them a nice break during the winter?? Meaning, hold the fertilizer water lightly and a cooler night about 10-15 degrees F lower difference from the day time temps. |
More or less, sort of. But since it's always hot here on the island. They are getting cooler night temps now. But the summer was incredibly hot,day and night...Waddya think, will they ever spike! I'm getting desperate...

What's the temp difference between day and night time??
From help on here and Google, the cool period is about 3 weeks when they start spiking BUT I haven't been able to get my phal.s to bloom yet. But I did get one to rebloom on an old spike. |
I like the baskets they are in, however they dry out quicker. Your leaves look a little limp, I would water them more often. Are you growing them outside? In Puerto Rico you could pretty much give the ones in the baskets a good soaking everyday if they are getting those nice tropical breezes.

Well thanks billc! I'm so afraid of root rot that i know I sometimes may err on the side of not watering!
I think I'll go out there right now and give them some :))) |
billc,I just wanted to thank you because apparently my eternal fear of root rot was keeping me from watering them properly! I've been giving them more water and they already look more turgid and the new leaf has grown a bunch!!! Thank you! It's water every day from now on :D

Well they seem to be doing good. If you rescued them in the summertime and its now February, all those new roots and leaves are from your tender care. :D A lot of my phal's have already started blooming or have started spikes already. So yours may still need this season to recover. But you never know!

Hi Erica. I've started watering every day and am already seeing growth! I'm afraid I was under watering a tad! I'll post a pic at weeks end so you all can see :)
