Cym Kiwi Midnight 'Geyserland' FCC/AOS
The last orchid I expected to see on the blessed eBay was Cym Kiwi Midnight 'Geyserland' FCC/AOS. I didn't expect to get that black flower that you see all over the net that looks too doctored, in my opinion anyway, but I'm truly delighted with this one.

Gorgeous flowers. Maybe on the next blooming cycle the colors of your flowers will be more vivid and darker. I don't think they will doctor the colors of those flowers since it was awarded and scrutinized by those judges. The pictures can also make it appear even more darker to almost black I suppose. That is why I put my flowers in the noonday sun to really capture the correct colors.

I hope you did not pay an exorbitant price for it. Because of the mass mericloning, the price in California has dropped to $25 a blooming size division. For the first 48 hours after it opens, it is very showy. It is downhill from there in form and in color. This plant was originally awarded within 48 hours of opening and was a very, very dark burgundy. Although it is very difficult to capture the true color of red flowers, the original photos were not doctored. The saturated color of the lip also lent to the dark color effect.
The worst thing you can do with a red is to subject the flowers to bright sunlight. All colors will fade in bright light. |
These are selling in Europe for almost $80 for around three bulbs to a plant. This one has eight bulbs, two new growths included. there were two spike but the seller broke one of them taking pictures for ebay lol. This one cost me £56 which is much cheaper than I was expecting. I've been told by a New Zealand friend that the breeder kept all of the darkest forms for himself, naturally, I would too. The blackest ones I've seen on line have a different shape to the sepals and petals as well as a different pattern on the lip. Even if the colour stays the same I will be happy but if it does decide to darken, that's fine too.

This cross cannot be exactly remade using the same cultivars of the parents, as one of the original parents is dead! This was a one chance in a million color in this cross. If it were remade, even using different cultivars, no plant could carry the clonal name 'Geyserland'! CL |
Only passing on what I was told. Personally, I don't care.
