South East Asia 2012 part I
Hi all,
It is already a while ago that I made a short tour through South East Asia: I climbed Mt Victoria at Palawan Island at the Philippines and Mt. Tambuyukon and Mt. Trus Madi in the Malaysian part of Borneo. Although orchids were not my prime target at this trip, I photographed several interesting orchids. Down here the first part: Mt Victoria, Palawan. The first orchid we found is probably new to science and grew at the foothills of Mt Victoria. I forgot to which genus this pretty one belongs. http://i378.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps498377ba.jpg In the lowland rainforest I spotted this nice Spathoglottis orchid. Maybe a hybrid between S. aurea and S. kimbaliana? http://i378.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps12c1433f.jpg Higher up the mountain we found some Stigmatodactylus orchids, previously unknown to the Philippines (the official description is not ready yet). http://i378.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps23e41a10.jpg Later on we found also some with red flowers but the colour was somewhat variable. I am not sure whether these are all colourmorphs form one species or that the red and the white ones belong to different species (especially the last one is unfortunately somewhat out of focus) http://i378.photobucket.com/albums/o...pse24ec70b.jpg http://i378.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps00b60c39.jpg To be continued... |
Beautiful, I love that yellow Spathoglottis!
What was your "prime target?" If you don't mind me asking? I would love to hike those mountains some day, the amount of Nepenthes especially on Mt. Trus Madi would be worth the trip alone! |
Cool!

Fabulous! That first flower looks like some of our Platantheras.
