Paphiopedilum Fumi's Delight & leucochilum
 

I picked up two more paphs on the last day of the show.
I picked Fumi's Delight hoping that specific shape I have been dreaming of. I am soooo looking forward to the flower on this thing.

I have no idea why I picked leucochilum as I have always read how not so easy brachys can be. oh, well... :lol:

By the way, anyone with green thumb with leucochilum and/or Fumi's Delight, please please share the success story.

I have read a lot regarding their habitat information and all, so please only limit to first hand growing experience here. :bowing

With brachy's, I put them in a bark mix and let them dry out more than other paphs or else they do love baskets. Don't repot often, no yearly but like every 2 years.

This new one is potted in what appears to be a mixture of bark and large perlite. The pot is tiny and the thing dries out fast.

Speaking of brachy, my others (a hybrid of niveum and anthong) are starting to grow new shoots after about three month's sleeping. good sign I guess.

Regarding repotting, I do not like repotting in general, so I do it maybe every three years or so. lol

I read from one Japanese source that brachys do best when undisturb for as long as possible like 10 years without repotting! I wonder how that's possible in the cultivation.

I'm mainly concerned about the temperature. I read that brachys, especially this leucochilum need very warm temperature year around.

My apartment stays warm enough for me, but it does get down to 60 at its coolest, which is like now with cold snap.

I've heard of people potting their brachys in extra big pots and not repotting for 6 or so years like you said. They plant them in pots double or triple the size of pot the plant would actually need.

The Japanese guy on the website I read from planted his brachys in a much larger pots with some kind of special stones popular in Japan at the very bottom, then the rest looked like typical mix of bark and pertlite and charcoal. He says he leaves the plant for 10 years without repotting.

My leucochilum and my four hybrids (anthong x niveum) are in tiny pots. hmmm.
