All one can say it appears to be a Cymbidium. And BTW, orchids are not described as "him" or "her", but "it" as they are bisexual.

Even when it blooms, the chances are next to nil for an identification unless it is a true species. In the meantime learn all you can about Cym culture, get it to blooming size in about three years you may be rewarded. Then just enjoy it and your efforts to get it healthy.

Is there really any other way? I have always felt it best to avoid the sugar coating and get to the point in the hopes that a new grower will begin to really dig into the many facets of good orchid growing for their own eventual success and pleasure.

What can be more rewarding than bringing a small neglected division as this is to blooming size? But I also feel it is best for the proud owner to know what it may take to get it there.

Good Luck Kjennings. :goodluck:

I should have mentioned earlier!!

My grandmother told me that the flowers of this plant are yellow but she couldn't remember if it had brown in the centre, or specks, or brown at all! She said not to quotee her on it because she's a bit older now - bless her!

Hopefully this might help you orchid-ites :)

Cheers:lol:

There are thousands of Cymbidiums which are yellow with red, doubtfully brown, on the lip. Please do not get your hopes up on ever identifying this plant. Just get it to blooming size and enjoy.

Cym Ladye:)

Thankyou for your honesty!

I would be happy to get an orchid to flower. Even if i knew only of the type of orchid then I'm happy - I don't need to know the specific names because I don't think I would ever be part of a show.

I've only gotten into them around 6months ago. I chose to experiment with the half-dying and the babies so that i can learn properly. It would be too easy to look after an already established plant.

Again, thank you for being straight up :)

You definitely have the right attitude! :bowing
