Perpetual Summer vs. Change in Daylight Hours

Which do you guys think is better for an overall healthier plant? Perpetual Summer (12 hours a day) or a change in day light hours with the seasons when growing inside under lights. I live in an area where the winters get cold and the summers get hot so I can take advantage of having "seasons" inside my spare bed room with out too much hassle.

Probably plant dependent really but I'd bet most won't care too much. 14hrs of light for me, all the time. Seems to work out just fine for most all phalaenopsis.

I do 16 hours a day, but I am only using florescent. (and not super strong) so I make up for slightly low light by time. They seem healthy and happy (even my succulents survive the winter).

Yes plant dependent.

My lights are running 10 hrs a day and that's too much for my paphs. I'm bumping them down to 9 and trying that.

I'm running my 1000w metal halide for 12 hours right now. Will bump it up next month to 13, then 14 until fall.

Many orchids won't bloom without a seasonal change in light.

I run my light about 12 hrs a day but move my phals to the lower shelf where they seem to do better, the light helps on days when the sun isn't bright or its over cast.
