It's an oncidium. As far as what specific species or hybrid it is, there's no way to know until it blooms. Oncidiums are pretty easy, I find, but I'm still not quite sure what I'm doing right with mine, so I'll let someone with more experience with these chime in and help you out with how to care for it!

Thanks sooo much! this is my first one added to my collection!

I don't think that's an Oncidium ( tho, I am not 100% sure that it isn't) ... but can't say what it might be.

Could it be a Phaius or something similar? The leaf axil leads me in that direction.

RandomGemini 01-11-2014 07:52 PM

Ooh... You could be right. The leaves do look more like a phaius. Those pbulbs and the way the leaves come out of the top reminds me of my Sharry baby, which is why I was thinking oncidium, but the leaves are not the same at all.

Very hard to say in this condition. My vague guess is Grammatophyllum.

Greenthumb.5 01-11-2014 11:34 PM

It is not a Phaius or Oncidium but it could be a grammotophyllum most likely but there is a possibility that it is a Eria given the shape of the pseudobulbs and the way the leaves look and attach to the pseudobulb but it looks like its kind of sick. How did the roots look like when you had initially?

kadive 01-12-2014 08:07 AM

I was looking at the picture of the grammotophyllum. this orchid looks very much to this one. This orchid was rescued brought from Puerto Rico. The orchid root was in bad shape, almost no root, plus is I shock for the change of environment. Question how long will take for it to get out of shock or what can I do to help her. now I am feeding her orchid fertilizer 20-14-13.

I go w gramm. Does the plant have a new growth to it? And how often do u water. My gramms are heavy feeders and drinkers; yours look pretty severely dehydrated. I feed mine on the advice from kawamoto orchids and what they feed theirs. Grow more palm food. 15-5-15 and they are happy. In fact my gramm. Var erectum has 2 growths rapidly growing in. So its working so does my wallissii
