When can I move my new Paph. To S/H

I was a Trader Joes and found a Paph. with the name (Supersuk 'Eureka' x Rasin Pie). From looking at the forum it should be called 'Hsinying Alien'. Since it's so dry here in the desert I want to move it over to S/H. When is a good time to do it?
As far as I can tell the flower is still opening up. I haven't seen any root rot through the pot but there is a place where the root is trying to go through a slit in the pot. It looks healthy to me but I've never had a Paph before. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Wait until it is done blooming. It will then put out more roots and new fans. That is a good time to do it - not now.
Enjoy! |
I move mine as soon as I bring them home, blooming or not. They never skipped a beat. They're the only genus I can do this with though.

Why am I not surprised there two different views. I've repoted my Phals as soon as I get them because I tend to kill anything in moss.
I might just repot it just to be on the safe side. |
I don't do a lot of s/h, but I know Ray's documented advice is the best time to do it is when a plant is putting out new roots. Paph's do that (mostly) when they are done blooming and they start working on new growths.
I repot paph's when they are in bloom in general, from bark to bark, and don't have problems. The concern about moving to s/h is that it's a different media, and the new roots help the plant acclimate into 'a new way of life'. |
I have no idea why, but paphs seem to take to S/H culture no matter when you repot them.

Well, I moved it to the s/h system using a wine bottle as my container. I've added a pic to show what is did. Also added a pic to show my critic in action.
