Will the real Onc. Tsiku Marguerite 'NN1' please stand up?

Hi gang--

OK, I have an interesting situation here, and hope that the "brain trust" can help out.

I bought an Onc. Tsiku Marguerite 'NN1' at the Central Ohio orchid show last spring. It bloomed with light pink and fragrant flowers (lotion/baby powder/slight chocolate? Hard to describe but really nice). Since I liked the plant and was successful growing it (and it's back in bloom again), I bought another one at a local nursery. It was in labeled as a Tsiku Marguerite 'NN1' and in spike at time of purchase.

Well, now the second one is opening and I notice some differences. Flowers are smaller and darker, and, most importantly, there is no fragrance. So, is a mislabeling on one or the other of these plants possible? And, if that's the case, which is the "real" one?

Thanks for your help!

Well, first off, congrats on your rebloom! :)
I love that plant as well.

Why don't you post pictures of the two?

It could be that the wrong tag is the case, but even the plants within the same clone can have different features including the presence of fragrance and flower color.

I'm not much with tech (and probably the last person in the world without a phone), but I'll see what I can do.

So, even when working with cloned plants (and I'm assuming that the grex is Tsiku Marguerite and the named cultivar is 'NN1') there is variability? Had no idea that was even possible--cool!

And thanks for the congrats--the success I'm having is due to the info on this board. Without OB my original NN1 would have been toast long ago.

The more a plant is cloned, the less the quality gets.
You would thing cloning would produce exactly same copies, and for the most part yes it does, but not always.

The plant is considered a weed to me. A good one, of course. You can grow it well and then divide it into pieces every year! lol

It's growing well for me, so it must be a weed....

And yes, I did think that cloning would produce identical copies, but sounds like that's not the case....Hmmmm, now you've got me wondering why.

Well, worst case I'll keep and propogate the fragrant one and use the other one as a gift.

That will work too. lol
