Aliceara (noid)

I don't believe this one had a tag when I purchased it 3 or 4 years ago when I was first getting back into orchids. It's been moved to 3 different homes in that period, and probably didn't grow as well as it could. But, it's getting more concerted care now, and I have room to take care of them better here. It still blooms every year with 3 stems. It looks like so many Alicearas, so I doubt if I'll ever get the actual name for this one, but if someone does know, I'd appreciate it.

Very nice. It looks a lot like some of the Aliceara Pacific Pastel photos I have seen. The shape and the spotting look closer than some other similar ones.

I thought so too. Maybe that's what it is, or at least it must be a similar cross?

BTW, it's a very large flower, probably close to 5" tall.

Wow! What a treat to have such large flowers. OrchidWiz has no awards info or flower dimensions on this but one parent Alcra. Tropic Splendor has that large of blooms. The other parent Onc. Connero doesn't.

Thanks to your help, I think I might have found the name of my orchid: Aliceara Tropic Lily 'Ice Palace' It looks like it in every way that I can see, even to the slightly greenish stripe in the middle of the petals, and the pattern of the spots (which are variable, but not too variable). Tropic Splendor is one of the parents of this one, too.

Looks to me like my degarmoara winter wonderland, but I am no expert...

Brenda, that does look similar, but the petals on the degarmoara are narrower, I'd say, and less spotting. But, they definitely look similar!

The Aliceara Tropic Lily does look similar but some of the Pacific Pastel cultivars look as similar to me. I agree, the Winter Wonderland petals look a bit narrower. In the end, you still shouldn't put a name on it if you show it or give a piece away since you can't say for sure what it is. It's very nice and that's what counts!

I do remember where I bought it, and could probably ask them if that was the name, since they had a whole section of those, and no other that were white, now that I think about it.

Ok, thanks. I don't really have an eye for detail so much. Good luck in checking with the seller. It is a beauty I know that.
