Urgent paph question!
 

So my new paph has very few roots. All of them are rotted from tightly packed moss and too much water. Can I keep it bare root or will that kill it?

Update, I was going to spag and bag, but I had no big bags... So I took a large glass bowl and clear plastic wrap. I put the orchid in and put some wet spaghnum moss in it. Hopefully it will work...

Do you have any seaweed? Or other root stimulant? If so, I'd soak the base. For a long time. Several hours.

I used to have some root stimulant, but I couldn't find it. If I got some would it be ok to take it out and soak it then out it back?

Yes. But then when you put it back in, that's it - meaning, you need to leave it be and let it establish again.

I have been growing Paphs for 13 years... Sounds like you might have a hard time to get this one established. I've had luck bringing a few plants back with at least one decent root, but it is difficult. Try the bag trick, but watch out for rot. Hope you can get it up and running again!

Soak it in some regular yellow Listerine first then soak it in seaweed or KLM solutions with phytosan. Treat as it is intensive care because it is. Some mineral oil placed around the base and whatever roots are left with a Q-Tip might help. Keiki liquid might help too.

The sad truth is though, unless this is an irreplaceable plant, it might just be easier to toss it and order another one.

I recently had a similar problem, paphs in coco husk were found to have no live roots, as a last ditch attempt to save them, I cut off all the dead material & I put them in a container with plain tap water just covering the bases of the plants & tried to forget them. Within 1 month a new root was visible on each plant. I potted them into fresh mix ( NOT coco husk) & 2 months down the line, they seem to be doing well. The leaves are all firm & new growth is evident on some of the plants.

Thank you for the advice everyone, Laserbeak, this is my first paph, and gorgeous at that, so I'm going to keep trying. The good news is that I kept two of the firmer roots on, and the beginning of one is turning a bit green. Fingers crossed!
