P. schilleriana select x self

When I ordered my Dend normanbyense this summer, I had to order a traveling companion, since Elsner has a minimum price limit when ordering. Since I was disappointed with the foliage of my new P. schilleriana 'Pink Butterfly' (which I doubt it is, due to the foliage), I decided to order another one, in the hopes of it having a more distinct mottling. It did, but I sure was feeling let down by the size of the plant, especially in comparison to what I paid for it.

It started working on a spike together with the rest of the warm growing mottled leafers this Autumn, and now the first two flowers have opened. Let's just say that all of my disappointment in regards to the plant size, have sort of flown out the window, upon seeing the flowers. I just love them.

I hope I'll get this little plant to like living with me, so I can enjoy it's gorgeous flowers many years to come. :D

Excellent shape, very full for a P. schilleriana.

Wow! I just love it!

Yes, that is a lovely flower. I can see why you like it.

Some schillerianas are fragrant, too. Fragrance ranges from being very faint to fairly strong, so there's a range in intensity as well. I believe they are most fragrant in the morning to early afternoon, and like many orchids, the scent is strongest when the plant is grown in natural sunlight.

Thanks guys! I'm really pleased with it and I doubt that my other one will look as nice as this one. :)

Since we haven't had ANY sunshine for over a week, I can't tell if it's fragrant or not. I'm hoping for some better weather so I can check. Even if it turns out non-fragrant, I'll still keep it. :)

I love this kind of pink.
I bought quite a few in the past few years when I saw them (NOID) at supermarket. Well, let's just say they all didn't like me too much. lol

I saw a large phal with this coloration the other day. I believe something like Malibu or something, but didn't pick up.

Anyways, I'm happy your small plant made it to flowering this same year! maybe it was meant to be small?

The Mutant 12-21-2013 02:13 PM

It was probably a Malibu Madonna you saw. :)

No, Phal. schilleriana isn't small, it's just a young plant so I think it'll grow bigger with time. It's just that it only had three leaves when I got it, and so far it hasn't grown any new ones. :(

I think so. It was definitely that same kind of color pattern.

Do the plants from this selfing come out with silver mottling on their leaves??

Very nice colour on this one.
