NOID cattleya, very similar to C. Heathii
4 Attachment(s)
Hi folks.
I was looking for C. walkeriana primary hybrids to see if I could narrow down another recent post and I came across this: https://www.orchidweb.com/products/c...thii~1781.html According to my browsing, the form of C. heathii seems to vary quite a bit depending on the parents, but to me the above link looks a lot like my latest NOID, pics below. Mine is perfumed, quite strong but I could only describe it as that "general orchid floral" perfume, nothing distinctive about it. Very sweet... Any suggestions? Cheers, Murray. |
I've done a bit of searching & I reckon you could leave the name C. Heathii on the plant. As you said, the variation is great & depending on the parentage. The one on the website is a little strange but again parentage difference.

It looks as if it stands between walkeriana and loddigesii, I agree. Nice flower.

I agree that it looks similar, but I wouldn't recommend naming it as there really is no way to know for sure...

Murray,
Heathii/dolosa is quite variable, but your flower seems to have a more wavy lip than Heathii/dolosa, thinner petals/sepals than Heathii/dolosa and a much wider lip than Heathii/dolosa. That really deep notch in the middle of the lip is also suspect. It very well could be Heathii, but I don't think you could conclusively say so without knowing its heritage. To me, its looks slightly more complex than a primary. |
