What is wrong with this Masdevallia?

Hey,
I have a few leaves that look bizarre.
I am worried about virus. Anything else is fixable.
What is this?
I do have a few fungas gnats and aphids in my greenhouse.

Thanks,
Adam

Did the leaf come in this way or did it turn that mottled coloration after?

Lordoftheswarms 12-16-2013 01:28 AM

I don't know if I could tell the difference. I'd have to spend a lot more time in the greenhouse to be able to tell.

How many leaves on that one plant are discolored?

It doesn't look like virus to me, more like environmental, like chemical, pest, temp or water problems etc.

I am no expert.

How is this plant kept?

Lordoftheswarms 12-17-2013 01:34 AM

Just one on this plant. There are other plants with the same markings. I'm hoping it's the aphid's bite marks on the young leaves. It doesn't look like virus to me. Virus has streak marks through the veins of the leaves doesn't it?

It's kept in my grow room in my basement, under T5 HO.

Viruses have a variety of markings. From what I've seen they look streaky or circular patterned and on multiple leaves not just one.
If you have pests, try getting rid of them with the most plant friendly way. You can kill the pests with harsh solutions, and end up burning your plants leaves. It kind of defeats the purpose IMHO
If you see healthy leaves turning colors you may want to look at bacterial or fungal problems, over watering, etc. once you have rid yourself of the pests.
I will usually remove leaves that look bad, just insurance in case of bacterial or fungal issues.

Oh and BTW, aphids will suck the life out of your plants

its just an old leaf. If yu look closely you might see that it has spiked before :twocents:

Polarizeme 12-20-2013 12:34 AM

That could very well be.

Can't tell you exactly. As Polarizeme pointed out, my first idea is chemical, after spraying a toxic agent. Next is enviromental. I'd closely observe if more leaves are showing symptoms.

No, it's a new leaf.
