How I spent my afternoon..

Good Evening all,

Today I decided to venture to Wal-Mart not that I really wanted to but we needed food. The crowds were bad. (I always start in the nursery section of the store...:) ). I picked up in the discount area a Paph. Raisin Pie X Supersuk, (is that really the best name they could come up with Supersuk?)...:hmm

The nursery was really packed with new shipments today. So I began to explore the Poinsettia area which was all over the place I never realized was how many different varieties of Poinsettia there is. I never was very interested in this plant up north I would see people buy them for the Holidays then chuck them out the door when it was all over. Here in my neighborhood I’ve seen a few large bushes growing in people’s yards all year round. It never occurred to me that these plants can be kept like a perennial not just treated like an annual. I do know that they are tricky to get them to rebloom. So I picked me up a variety called ‘Sonora White Glitter’. Tomorrow I will get its picture taken while it’s still in its prime. Oh and I did remember to get some groceries before leaving...

Glad to hear your not going hungry this week!!;) I have a Customer that has grown Poinsettia in to small trees. Cold blast will make them bloom or change color! My curiosity is going make me look up what a supersuk orchid looks like!!!:scratchhead:

Jo Ann, I went to my local Wal-Mart the other evening....I went to the nursery section of the store, not converted to the Christmas section....and I asked if they had any orchids....lol....the lady laughed and said they were seasonal and wouldn't in until spring and I told them Home Depot had them for sale....she asked me if I saw the actual plant for sale or the bulb....lol.....um....yeahhh.....right.....

Poinsettia needs 12 hours of darkness to set bud. When we grew them in our greenhouse we pulled black shade cloth over them from 6:00 PM until 6:00 AM.
