Dendrobium or a Cattleya?
 

Hello everyone!
I've been growing orchids for a year now, but I still consider myself a newbie. I just got my first phal to start spiking and that alone is a huge accomplishment! Aside from that, I am having some trouble identifying an orchid I bought last summer. The label only said it was a dendrobium orchid... but under furthur inspection, I'm starting to think that it is actually a cattleya. Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of the flower, but I can show you it's leaves. Please help me identify! Thanks in advance! Attachment 92063

Not a dendrobium.
It looks sort of like cattleya and encyclia hybrid of some sort??

Its a Cattleya.... maybe a hybrid by the way it is growing new leads and by looking at the largest leaf. I also observed a bifoliate leaves and a single leaf combination.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions. I'll assume care for cattleya. Hopefully I can show you guys its flower later on!

Also, through y'alls experience, does this cattleya look like it is receiving enough light? I know adequate light is indicated by a yellow-green color on the leaves, but mine look more of a dark-verdant green.
This guy is on a south-east facing window with full-spectrum supplemental lighting during the day.
I would like to note that I recall this guy having a similar color when I bought it in bloom.
I think there is a possibility that the dark coloration is a differential characteristic that is expressed through hybridization, but I can't be too sure.
Thoughts?

Looks like a Brassavola nodosa hybrid to me which means it can always use more light.

I'll have to check those hybrids out then!
Okay, but if a south-east window with supplemental lighting isn't enough, what else is there to do?
The nights here are dropping to ~30F so I doubt keeping her outside is a good idea :/

I think you could increase the supplemental lighting by getting a larger system if need be. I see some red coloration on the new growth which means its getting ok light, but more light could help blooming in the future.

Okay! I'll give them a bit longer to adjust. I just got a better light bulb, so I'll see how it does with that. Thanks!

So very old post, but here is an update. Over the few years of having this plant, I was able to make it bloom, but I did not take any pictures :rofl:

But...

I can show you what they sort of look like from a different site. They resemble blooms of a Baellara/Aliceara Tropic Lily, but the leaves and stalk certainly don't look like it!

Does this change your mind as to what you think it might be?

Also note, that the fragrance is a faint, sweet, and spicy/pepper-like scent.
