Easy and inexpensive way how to mount Phals
:waving
I have many of my phals mounted, growing outside in Florida year round. Many are on wood or tree fern, but when I was in Lowes in summer, I saw these very cheap birds feeders, only $1.99, and I got great idea. Took few home, filled one with sphagnum and mounted one of the Phals on it. This was back in July, and I must say, Phal likes it very very much, there is bunch of the new roots that are growing all through and attaching to the mount. This is very effective and inexpensive way how to mount. Due to the great air circulation the sphagnum works well for them, otherwise I would not recommend sphagnum for Phals in Florida! |
What a great idea! Thanks for sharing it.

Very ingenious, Tommy!

Very nice if you can keep the sphagnum moist. I'm sure you could fill it with orchid bark and all sorts of other media.

Well, you live in Miami, here in NYC, in the winter, indoors. The sphag would hold the moisture for 30 hours.
