Growing a phal bare root in a 'vanda basket'

Anyone ever do this? I'm going to try it out on one of my larger phals that doesnt like being in a potting mix.

50-60% humidity
with normal home phal temps.

I think that you would have to water it too often. I find that growing vandas this way in the home isn't practical because they dry out far too fast. If you put a little charcoal and sphag in the basket you might get better results. I do with that my vandas. I have a neighbour who has a phal in vase culture.

Ya we will see, I can give it daily water if needed

It will need at least once a day.

Alright cool. I'm going to let the roots dry for a couple days since the plant was staying too wet.

I say why not. Watering the plant can be a nice daily ritual. You will need to get creative if you go on vacation though. Good luck and post a pic or two when you get it transplanted.

If you don't have many plants then once a day won't be too bad. I like to be able to skip watering for a couple of days at least. It should work fine though.

I do have it, outside at the balcony, small wooden basket, and it LOVES IT!!! No issues, lot of roots attaching to the wood. I do water every day in summer, now in fall only every 2 days or so!

Yeah I already have a daily ritual of waking up and doing a quick check on all my plants. And I'm on vacation right now, took all my phals

I'm very excited about this plant moving over to bare root! Getting back to basics!

I find them much easier to grow in wet sloppy moss myself....I dont know where you are located as you might live in the jungle and find this easier for you. dry root plants suck up lots of moisture from the air. you can water it all you want and it wont make up for full time humid conditions. I'll give you 6 weeks in this weather outside on the porch and its dead.
