Progress with a Catasetum and a Cattleya

I have some new progress to report! These two seem to be taking well to the new change to s/h.

I'm fairly new to Catasetum so I'm not sure what these growths are but I am hoping for a spike here!

This Catt is a bit dry looking but the the new root growth is so adorable.

Yay! I did not kill them!

I am especially pleased that these too are doing good because the Catasetum was was looking kind of funky when I first got it and the Catt was a rescue from a greenhouse sale. Hurray!

That is great, I love the idea of hydroton with the catasetum. They don't like to be soaked so it makes sense to me.

Yeah, I am thinking it will work well during the dormant period too. I'll just let the reservoir dry out and it should be good to go.

I'm curious to see if this one produces a spike this year. I'm not sure how mature the pbulb needs to be but there definitely is some interesting growth there!

Looks good. The health of orchids starts from the roots. Everything depends on a healthy well developed root system. For the moment regular fertilizing is the task. Give it a chance to form a good bulb before you hope for flowers. A strong Catasetum will always flower. I think that hygroton works for Cattleya and Catasetum.

Did you open holes on the vases?

Yes, I was really happy to see some new root growth under the bulb. I'm loving the hydroton! It so much cleaner for my space and I can reuse it!

I wasn't sure what to expect with this catasetum because I assumed it would be going dormant now but the leaves are still going strong. It may be confused or delayed due to the switch from Hawaii to Ohio and then the switch from regular bark culture to S/H.
