I recommend a new subforum called "Artificial Lighting"

I notice that most of the members of this forum use artificial lighting to some degree in their home set-ups. The information regarding growing under lights is scattered all over the forum.

Other than the "Growing under lights" subforum on GardenWeb, there really is not alot of information gathered in one place. The GardenWeb forum is good, is not orchid specific.

Which is an EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY for OrchidBoard to take the lead in this area.

I recommend that a new subforum called "Artificial Lighting" be created in the "SETUPS & ENCLOSURES". All posts concerning lighting should be moved to this new forum.

I think it was Ross who mention the same thing couple of weeks back.
I'm not certain but I believe it was decided it was part of orchid culture and we already had the forums for that.

Ross? :hmm

Agree. This seems to just be a short peak in interest. We've gone months with no questions then all of a sudden... Let's just leave it in hardware or culture for now. Just my opinion.

We've gone months without a lighting question, because most people are just now getting the plants used to being back inside.

I bet most lighting question, from people who live in the Northern Hemisphere are during fall and winter, when the questions are a priority concern.

Since this topic of interest, is not currently a unique web forum called "Indoor Growing Under Artificial lights", the information gets spread out among many interests.

When I was trying to learn about "artificial lighting", I visited and joined bonsai forums, Dart Frogs forums, aquarium forum (and reef growers, who really are into lighting), and other orchid forums.

When I said "excellent opportunity", what I meant was to create a places on this forum that could possibly draw alot of interest via search engines from people hunting for information. An active conversation about artificial lighting and a repository of "lighting information" could boost forum membership and participation.

That's people with marine reef aquariums, right?

I think its a great idea. Everytime I want to set up a terrarium or something similar I have tons of questions on lighting. People all throughout the year have questions about watts, footcandles, lumens etc..... And then they have more questions about types of light bulbs, setups and more! So yea, I agree. It would be good to do this. In the past I always went to the experts (reef hobbiests) as well as orchid board to get an idea of what kind of lights to use.

Since this comes up every now and then, I think it's very fair to lump all those lighting posts into their own category.

New forum has been created.

Now can someone find all the threads and move them? :scratchhead:

Tindomul 11-28-2007 02:51 PM

OOh all right. I'll do it. But I need a possy. If you guys see a wanted thread let me know.
