Pot troubles
I am having a very hard time finding a pot for my Jose Marti "Mothers Favorite". I can not seem to find a 10 inch azalea pot for it. I have even looked on line and I can't find one on there either at any of the orchid places . I really think it needs re-potted now! I will try and get some pictures up soon but I have a question. I did find some pots on Amazon one is a clay a rustic terra cotta that is very old looking it says 10" by 8' by 5". I am guessing 10 at the top 8 at the bottom and 5 deep.
My husband can drill more holes in it. I also found a pot that say's is made of polymer, stone powder and wood dust it is 12" by 4.5". It is a cool looking pot and I would think he could drill holes in this one as well. It really is not a pot but a bowl pot. Now the orchid is in an 8.5" inch by 6". What do you guy's think would be the best one? |
I'm surprised you cannot find a 10" azalea pot. I buy them regularly at the local nursery.
I'd be careful about putting it into too big a pot. I always try to increase the pot size by small amounts; but I am unfamiliar with this orchid's growth pattern. |
10" round white plastic bulb pan
Have you tried this company (Quarter Acre Orchids)? This is a 10 inch bulb pan. I have placed I think 4 large orders from her for clear pots for our society and she is always great to deal with and prices are cheaper for me to ship from the U.S. than to order within Canada. Not that I can even find such selection here. |
I've gotten 10" azalea pots and a 10" clay bulb pan at a local hardware chain. I've also gotten 10" orchid basket at HD.
Retail nurseries may be another possibility. |
an orchid basket will be good, don't use to much potting mix, just some lava rocks and charcoal, or leca, I love the baskets.

Hi all Have you tried Charley's Greenhouse & garden Charley's Greenhouse & Garden greenhouses supplies charlies kits hobby garden accessories orchids winter green house I've bought from them before. There are no supply houses around me anymore. Except Lowes and Home Depot. And we all know where that leads too JamesL

you have gotten loads of leads for pots! I always kept my jose marti in a plastic 10" azalea pot too...they make a spectacular display! I just loved that plant! since it was in such a large pot, I always put a smaller net pot in the center of the pot while repotting...mine had to be repotted for sure every 2 years as it grew so rampantly....the cuttings were easy to root and sold very well on ebay for me...but try the net pot on the inside of yours when you pot...it helps dry out that large amount of bark you have to use....good luck, and enjoy!!

Another possibility is to use a water garden pot. They are net and come in many sizes.

---------- Post added at 10:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:23 AM ---------- I was hoping I could put up pictures but we have had to go back to our old computer and now I don't have photo-bucket on here. But I do know it needs to be re-potted as the roots are hanging out of the pot and some of the new growths are pushing against the pot. |
What about Walmart? Ours has quite a good supply of clay pots. Not sure what size they go up to but they even have clay orchid pots with holes in the sides.
