Oncidium spike from Pbulb top??
1 Attachment(s)
I mentioned this guy in another post. I'm updated here and hoping someone can tell me if they have ever had an oncidium spike from the top of the pbulb. And if it is a sign that I am doing something wrong.
When in bloom it does not look like an encyclia at all. It is a yellow/brown dancing lady type oncidium. The spike is actually growing. I freed it a couple of days ago and it has already straighten itself out and gotten a bit bigger. |
I've seen it happen quite a few times.
Nothing wrong. |
Sometimes they get what looks to be a small pbulb growing on top of the normal sized one, and then get a small spike from there (side of the mini pbulb on top of the normal one) ... Perhaps that is what yours is doing ...?
|
It is very possible that it is to the side of a mini bulb on top. The last leaf got stuck, so who knows what was going on at the apex. It's my first oncidium alliance rebloom. So. Either way I'm taking it with pride even if it's a little strange.

Well the flowers are actually maturing from their little spike. Anyone have a further guess at ID past oncidium alliance?
|
Is it fragrant at all? That will probably help you out some. Give it a whiff in the morning after the sun has been on the blooms for a few minutes.
I can't tell what color the petals are for sure, but they look pink? |
No. I haven't detected any fragrance. I would describe the color as brownish red with yellow splotches.
|
Wilsonara of some kind it looks like, but I don't think your picture is showing the flower color correctly.
|
Cool!
