Lepanthopsis astrophora - cute mini in spike

:waving
Love love love mini's
This was my very first mini orchid, I have some 5 now:-) All in different set ups, one in vase, one in wooden terrarium, one in glass orb, some outside at the balcony, all of them doing great! Recently many decided to spike, so I will have quite a show soon. This is the first one to open, so I share few pics, this one is so small that no one can not add it to the collection, it fits anywhere!!!:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I normally don't posts my pictures of my blooming plants, but I will probably post my Lepanthes calodictyon because I can't believe it spiked in my care! Lol! This is my second go around with this guy, but this time I'm much more experienced then the first. When I saw the spike, I was shocked!

Awesome, can't wait! I love when members post pics, this way I can see new orchids, read about care or ask them, and add them to my list, I would not buy so many orchids if I have not joined this board, every day there is some new gorgeous one that blooms for someone and I see pics of:-)

And here we go, did check your Lepanthes calodictyon, and I love it, must get it for my hygrolon cylinder, the foliage is awesome! How do you grow this one?

Well, when I bought it at a show my setup wasn't finished, I wanted to keep the humidity high, so I put it in a shot glass with water at the bottom (my husband makes fun of this setup because I'm not a drinker, but I have orchids in shot glasses)! I keep it evenly moist and it sits in a window that gets southern exposure. It was just a temporary set-up, but apparently this little guy LOVES this spot. I have tons of new growth and a spike! So low tech and unsophisticated, I was just hoping to keep it alive while I finished its intended home, this guy really surprised me!

I love the foliage too! That's why I bought this guy. It reminds me of little turtle shells. :D

It should do great in your setup! Your conditions should be perfect for it!

Many thanks, it will go on hygrolon, constantly moist, high humidity, I just need to find who sells it, I did check tropical orchid farms and andy's and no luck there;-) There is orchid show next week in Miami that I do go, so if I can't find it, I will ask there. May I ask where did you purchase yours? if it was online:-)

I love this little orchid. It does very well under phalaenopsis-type conditions. It grows like a weed. I was told by the vendor that you shouldn't cut off the old spikes as they have a good chance of reblooming. I have no idea whether this is true. It is also quite forgiving. While you are supposed to keep it evenly moist, mine has survived far too many droughts without lasting damage. The leaves curl up a bit when it gets too dry, but with a little care and attention and some extra water and humidity, it bounces right back. Post pictures again when it blooms. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks jrodpad, I heard it also about the old spikes so I am not cutting them unless they are months without any sign of life:-) Few old one did re bloom for me already.
