Help with next orchid
 

I have 11 orchids. 2 white miniphals, 3 big phal hybrids, an epicattleya Charlie Brown 'Red', a potinara Dick Smith 'Dark Beauty' , a paph 'Mr. Wonderful', a yellow oncidium, a bluish purple dendrobium phal type, and a oncidium alliance intergeneric.

I have attached photos of what they all look like, aside from the miniphals. I am looking to add an orchid....or two that are inexpensive to my collection. I think that I have enough light for catts and oncidiums but I dont have proof yet because I got them over the summer and they haven't rebloomed.

I have rebloomed my phals and paph, so I know that I can definitely provide the conditions that those plants need. I have windows at the northeast, east, southeast, south, and southwest available.

I'm feeling kind of overwhelmed with the possibilities and wondering if anyone has a suggestion on where I should go for my next orchid.

Should it be a species, another hybrid, am I missing a great orchid color? Are there any types that are super vigorous?

Maybe an orange phrag (like besseae?)..Should grow fine with your light.
Or maybe just stop by Lowes and pick up some half-dead orchid for 5$..I've heard of people getting some nice orchids for cheap..One youtuber I know of got a 5$ Psychopsis, and Miltonia.

Oh... I think you are ready to try a bulbo. :) Some of the bulbos like catt light, but the lower light varieties might provide a challenge for you. Unique colors and forms on the blooms and there's enough variety that you could find a miniature or a very large specimen for your growing conditions.

I'm having fun with mine so far. I'm also enjoying joking about what it's going to smell like since there seems to be some debate as to whether it smells like something dead, or like rotten cheese. :D There are as many bulbos that smell good or have no fragrance at all as there varieties are that are stinky. Just research the plant first, if you don't want a stinky one.

If your epicatleya is doing well, you might consider a Neofinetia falcata plant. This is a very easy Vanda alliance orchid to grow--not like its large cousins. It is a small plant with very fragrant flowers. It is a historic and ancient plant under cultivation in feudal Japan since the 1600's. There is a very active sub forum on this board--Vanda Alliance Neofinetia that you can peruse for more information.

Unfortunately, they are not easy to acquire and they are a little bit more expensive than the average Phalaenopsis.

With your light exposure, you can basically grow any orchid genera out there! How lucky!! :)

If you are looking for something super vigorous, then paphiopedilum callosum (and its hybrids) or paph. sukhakulii. They are great growers and bloom often.
All should be just about as easy as Mr.Wonderful or even easier.

Many cattleyas grow like crazy as well.
I would recommend anything with brassavola or Pot. Susan Fender 'cinnamon stick' AM/AOS.

It seems to me that you're missing some pretty cool Paphs and Phrags. I recently purchased a Paph "VooDoo" and the color is just a deep deep purple. Looks magnificent. Another option that I've seen on here and I may have to get one is a pink Phrag...they look so delicate and soft. I am not familiar with Phrags, but Paphs I know could take any of those windows. Some examples of what I'm talking about are below:

Paph hybrids with voodoo involoved can come out really beautiful.
I have a few and a couple of them are just gorgeous!

I suggest species Phal. Most look very different from the hybrids. If you can grow the hybrids, you should be able to bloom most species.

Matt, why are you creating competition for the limited supply? ;)
