This is my first bloom from this Chinese Cymbidium. It has a second spike started and I'm sorry to say that I broke off a third infant spike a few weeks ago. it also has 2 new growths apparent.

Chinese Cymbidiums grow warmer that regular Cyms and require much less light. I grow mine in more light than Phals and less than Catts. It wants to be moist and fed heavily when growing in the summer. It has long roots so it likes a "tall" pot.

I clearly liked it because without realizing I already had one, I bought another one!

I have the same variety. Blooms have a faint lemony scent, very pleasant. I am a great believer now in those tall cym pots and I would recommend them to anyone with Chinese cyms.

Beautiful!!!

Where do you buy these? I have never seen these in person in the USA.

and I haven't seen pink flowers on these.
I've seen cream, green, dark brown, and orange.

What mix do you use?
I used to grow cymbidum goeringii in light weight stone chips.

I got this one from Ten Shin Garden at the Silva Orchid festival last May or June. It came bare root with a little sphag in a cellophane bag. I put into a tall clay pot with large orchiata bark and it just took off. I feed with MSU and use KLN once a month.

The second one I also got from Ten Shin at our OS meeting last month. It came in the tall plastic pot that is often used for Chinese orchids. It is in very large bark. Matt Chen (owner of Ten Shin) was the speaker at the OS and he said it is common to put gravel or a mixture of gravel/bark in the lower half of the tall pots not only for the weight but also drainage.

I see.
Dang, I missed that big shopping day in June.
A lot of stuff always happened in early June and kept me from visiting that place. lol

It's a beauty Carrie. I picked one up from Ten Shin at the Philly show and it's just starting to put up a spike. I can't wait to see that flower in person!

Cheers.
Jim

Here's his website.
Home, TEN SHIN GARDENS, Quality?Rarity?Serenity

He'll ship when he's in the US. I've gotten a bunch of plants from him; both as pre-orders for shows and through shipping. When I have plants shipped, I just e-mail my list and the next time he is in the US for a show or talk, he'll ship it.

Matthew is a really nice guy and a pleasure to work with.

Cheers.
Jim

I believe Mathew is in the US now and he is selling at the North Jersey Orchid Society show & sale in January (Wayne NJ), and he usually at SEPOS in April in Philly as well.

I'll go jump on that website right away :)
