Mounting my new flasklings.....good or bad idea....
 

Okay, some of my new flask babies that are going to look like my avatar. They are the next to last of my flask chids that I took out last week. Some of the largest plants have close to say 3.5 inch long roots or bigger.

I am wondering if it would be okay to go ahead and mount just a few of them on small mounts now...they are having issues sitting upright in their pots to me going into my greenhouse to find that they are in the basket they are hanging in... Should I go ahead and wait maybe a few more weeks?

As long as humidity is higher and you're able to water more frequently, i say try it for a few of them.

Cool, they are in my greenhouse no hardening required for them they were so big. And when I water each afternoon I dang near die from the humidity from all the damp media heating up in there haha. I will try it with only one or two then will post a few pictures.

Kindra no experience here what so ever, however when my Dendro anosmum keiki had roots over 3" long I did separate them from the cane and mounted on tree fern blocks. This was in August, Today they have roots already growing into the tree fern. So I do agree, as far as you can keep humidity high for them and water them as needed, I would try at least few!

Well I am going to give it the ole college try with maybe 1-3 of them that are so big it is hard to get them still....also my gardenia is still throwing out blooms and my goodness you walk into that tiny little thing and between the humidity and heat the smell of a single blossom is strangling.

Okay I have pictures now. Under the plant and against the wood I placed the sphag chips that are in the better gro phal mix. Just for a little bit better stability on the plants. Worked great the plant was stable so I could wrap fishing line around it easier. I wrapped at least two times snug but not cutting into the roots to hold it steady and then added dead sphagnum moss and again wrapped like a mad woman making sure it was secure and added another piece as I went. The ones I mounted had new roots growing and the lower roots were decaying some so glad I went a head and mounted them. Here are the pics.

The next ones you mount, take a drill and drill lots and lots of small holes through the mount. And don't use such tight moss on the roots. They need air more than moss. They might suffocate like phals from big box stores. Loose and they will do fine. I've found that lost of holes in the mount really help them. I do this with my rescue boards. The holes fill with water when watered and stay wetter than the moss. On my other rescue boards which are now in my GH at my folks, the roots seek out the holes. It really works.

I love the ideas of drilling holes. Unfortunetely the piece I used for this one are rather small they are old pieces of a broken rose bush trellis. Do allow the tips and the tops of the roots air though.

What is your plan to deal with the plants when they get really big?
