Phalaenopsis Cascade Pink Dancer
 

That's it........I am officially banned from buying anymore phalaenopsis :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I went along to an orchid day with a speaker at a big garden centre not from from where I live today. Sat and listened to the talk and came home with this new phal. Its a stunner. The flowers are 4.5 inches across!! The stem is so long its double over an arched cane.

There was no official tag but it had a nursery label which i looked up and the phal i bought is on there and listed as Cascade Pink Dancer. I am going to e-mail the nursery direct and find out if this is its official ID name.

Wow! Those huge flowers are amazing! The purple is soo rich, and I love the patterns... I agree it looks like it may have Leopard Prince (or similar) in its background. Thanks for sharing! :biggrin:

Hehe.... "banned from buying anymore Phalaenopsis".... :coverlaugh: Ya never know, sometimes, when you're at a garden center, those Phals (& sometimes other types too) can just jump into your cart, and you have no idea until you get home... and then it's just waaay too much trouble to take them back to return them after you've already gotten all the way home!! :evil:

Just a quick question...............
After I got my new phal home I gave it a good soak. It has got very healthy dark green roots, but i also noticed it has got a long mushy root down at the bottom of the pot.

The leaves are very healthy & firm. Its not showing any sign of distress.

As you can from my pictures see its in full bloom, should i take it out its pot now to sort out the mushy root or wait till it finished flowering?????

I dont want to disturb it if i really have to, but dont want to delay if its going to affect it. :(

Wow! Beautiful big blooms. I love it.

If it's in moss, I always repot immediately, blooms or not as the moss going to stay wet for too long. Personally, the overall health of the plant is more important to me than the blooms that are on their last leg anyway.

My practice is to soak the plant in seaweed, cut the dead/mushy roots, cut the spikes and place them in the vase. Spikes would last the same amount of time, and they actually enjoy being in the vase.

All that allows the Phal to start healing from all the stress it's been through including forced blooming, going through shipping and environment change.

Others may have a different take on the matter.

I agree. I've repotted phals that are in boom without a problem several times now. I've done it so many times now, that I don't worry about losing blooms on phals. When I get them home, I check the media and the roots and if I am not 100% happy with what I see, I repot them that day.

On my day off later this week I will take it out of its pot, get rid of the mushy root and re-pot using fresh bark.
It has got lots of healthy green roots, just this one mushy one right at the bottom of the pot. Lets hope thats all i find in there!! :evil:
