Oncidium wildcat problems
1 Attachment(s)
hello
You guys helped me with identifying this orchids and i had problems with it in the past. And now i have problems again. The leaves on the new growth are not growing right. harmonics type of growth... I dont know how to explain in english. I read somewhere that this happens becazse of not enough light and too little watter. But it is placed in a west facing window and it is kept moist all the time. Any suggestions? The same thing happened on a previous growth. photo included Gregor |
Humidity could be the problem.
And by the way, in English many people refer to it as 'accordion leaves' :) |
Thanks for clarifying that out Cambria.
hmmm it could be humidity... but i dont know other plant are doing just fine i think. |
The pleating of the leaves is usually caused by lack of water. It could be you need to water more often or it could be the roots have a problem and can't take up enough moisture to support the leaf growth. This happens to me sometimes when I miss a watering or two. Unfortunately once it happens it stays like that. It's a good reminder to water more often.

You say it is moist all the time. Maybe it is too moist and causing root rot. I have 2 of these and I let mine get close to dry before watering again.

At first i waited for pot to dry out a bit betwen waterings. It didn't work out. So i decided to water more frequently. and I have the same problem. I checked the roots.. there is little of them but they do look healthy and there are some new growths aswell. Maybe i have to check the roots again. :hmm

Since the ones that are folded, won't change, maybe wait and see if future growth improves if you have changed the way you water now. They take a while to grow so don't keep making changes till you see if what you are doing is working. Does the pot have good drainage? You could try using some seaweed in your water which seems to help stimulate root growth.

Yes i was planing that. But here i cant buy it. I have to order it online. Do you have any suggestions which seaweed should i buy?
