3 Attachment(s)
hi all :waving, I havnt been growing and caring for phals long, since march maybe, but im quite good at it..so my family say as I usually kill plants... I wanted to know what kind this orchid is as when I bought it I cant remember it being like this. whilst the flowers were on i pollinated it, the pod gradually formed and when the flowers were wilting I cut the stem right down to get nutrients to the pod, then very soon after I got another shoot with these flowers on..to me they look different, does anyone have a name for them, thanks, also when should I take the pod off, thanks

I think we often call flowers with unusual positioning of petals and sepals mutants. Some of us think they're really cool! I do! I have a yellow mutant that I hope will remain that way when it flowers again.
To my knowledge this is nothing to worry about (unless you hate the appearance of these flowers) and I would keep the seed pod on if the plant is otherwise healthy. |
is my pod ok
thankyou for the quick response and for the info, how long should I leave the pod on, and can you tell if it looks ok.

These kinds of genetic mutations have a term for them - generally called, peloricism. There are various degrees of peloricism.
Basically what peloricism is is when the petals look the same or similar to the labellum (aka lip). |
thanks for the info, very interesting. have a good day all the way in L A.
