Mold?

Hello everyone :waving

I have one big, beautiful Phal, you can see her in picture :) She is going crazy with leaves as you can see, and is looking healthy I think. She has many growing roots, although some aerial roots are looking brownish, but I guess that they are kinda older. I have this Phal for year and a half, I repotted when it stopped blooming, about a year ago. Today I noticed something that looks like a spike, and I really hope it is :blushing:

But... On few roots, not many, 2-3 I noticed some white, moldy, furry thing :( I must admit that I am so worried, because she is my first baby and I love her very much. Besides that few roots, that are green, growing and besides that white thing looking really healthy, everything looks completely ok. I don't water too often, only when I see that roots are thirsty. I have this white thingy for a while now, and I don't think it's spreading or has any effects on this Phal. I read somewhere that it can be some matter that Phal grows to help him attach to surface... I am sorry for long post, but please understand that I am very worried. And sorry for my bad English. So, any advice? Thanks for reading! :thanx:

Wow! That sure is a lot of leaves! I am curious to see how others respond to your question...

I may be wrong but I have been told to take some peroxide on a cotton ball and dab it. If it comes off it is mold. If not it may be your phal sending that out to attach itself to something. They sometimes do that mine did that, it is now mounted as well. Oh and wowza that is some serious leaves

Nice looking plant. I would do like Kindrag said to see if comes off, I'll let some one else help you if its mold I'm not sure what to do about mold on roots.

kindrag23 09-15-2013 09:08 PM

@ Ferns Daddy me neither.

LadySoren 09-15-2013 10:34 PM

I wish mine had that may leaves, goodness!!

I can't see any white fuzz in the picture. When I think of white fuzzy/furry, I think of mealy bugs or one of the pests I forget which, but it looks like cotton-y stuff.

Your english is fine by the way. No need to apologize. I struggle and it's my only language! Sad...

Thanks everybody for answers, you are very kind. I am attaching pics of that "mold". I noticed that "mold" is mostly where root "connects" with container... You can see how it looks like in pic. I don't know if putting some hydroxide in water when I water her will help...
Thank you all again for very kind words and help! :blushing:

I'd drench the plant & pot in Hydrogen Peroxide and see if it helps. No harm if it doesn't.

AuroraPhal 09-19-2013 11:33 AM

Thanks for your answers. I will try with Hydrogen Peroxide if it can't do any harm, but I don't know how much to put it in water? What ratio water:hydrogen?

cbuchman 09-19-2013 12:00 PM

You can buy Hyrdogen Peroxide in most drug stores in the US, usually in the First Aid department. Though I'm not sure about the Pharmacies in Serbia. I think the standard is a 2 or 3% solution here. Just poor it on the plant directly from the bottle. Couldn't be easier.
