Indoor relocation - show & ask

Here is the best location I could find for my orchids. I can put a baby gate across the end of the hallway to keep pets and kids out of them, and they get morning sun from the foyer upper window (direct at times). Just looking for general support/critique on the location. I can't really separate for different light levels as all north-facing windows are practically impossible to baby-proof, and the other south facing windows aren't available (unless put them on the top bunk of my son's bed?!?! lol) So here is my set-up...

and my current spikes & bloomers...the fuscia bloom I call Ikea, NOID from...Ikea...and the center plant is from my clearance bromeliad planter, just spiked!

lastly, is there any hope for this Den. Spectabile? there has been no change in months...but I don't think it's a goner? the roots still turn a pale green when I water, but otherwise are white and firm

Looks nice!

You will need to judge later, but the light may be OK for your Phals, possibly not enough for your Catts and more light-loving plants. You can always supplement with additional lighting (fluorescent or LED lights intended for plants).

I do have an Ikea floor lamp right next to it. It uses very low watt/voltage CF lights...but I can add some lights to the lower levels of the shelves if I need to. What am I going to notice if they need more light?

I agree that the set-up looks good, but some of your orchids will need more light. Walmart has some lights for plants that you could install under your shelf; they are cheap and light weight. The leaves will start to become a dark green which signals your plants aren't getting enough light.

Dendrobiums aren't my speciality, but I would replace the glass container with a smaller pot that has more drainage holes. Hopefully, someone who has a bit more experience with dendrobiums can give you additional advice.

Yes, it's not in an ideal pot because I had to steal it's pot for another plant for now. It's in very coarse material and it's dry right now.

Are you sure the plant in the glass container is a Den? It doesn't look like spectabile to me...or any den for that matter. I think it looks more like a cattleya.

It was a bag baby, Den. Spectabile. It's just shriveled and the leaves got some extra sun so they're light. lol woops!

It does look like a Den to me, but one that has lost all but one leaf per cane.

Don't write it off now. While it is not dead it can still put out new growths from the base.

:agree:

Looks like my baby spectabile, just fewer leaves.
