Little tiny bugs on my Mormolyca!

I need some help, I've seen these little tiny miniscule whitish bugs on the flowerstems of my Mormolyca ringens. It's only on the flowerspike and I've been removing them with a soap solution, but they just keep coming back.

Here's the funny bit though: There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the plant, there is no damage to the flowers or flowerstems at all, in fact, the plant is happier than I've ever seen it, it's produced maby 6 flowers in the past couple of months, including 3 new growths. Also, after the initial shock I moved it back in with my other orchids, and the little bugs haven't come near any of them, and I check every time I water.

At first I thought it was just markings on the stem, but they come off when I wipe at then. Definately not aphids (too small) or thrips (wrong shape).

Any ideas? I'm stumped!

My first thought was thrips ...
White flies?

Besides tiny (how tiny?) and white, what do they look like? Do they fly?

^I thought the same as WhiteRabbit, and agree with Carol, that pics would definitely help! :)

whatever you call it, its a bug! and bugs are BAD...so get the old insecticide out and have a go....whatever its name, you don't want it on your orchids....take immediate and strong action!

When I say tiny, I mean really tiny. I can hardly get a good photo of the mormolyca flower, let alone the tiny criiters sitting on it's stem. They don't fly, or even move as far as I can see. Perhaps it's not even a bug, but a spotty type of fungus?

Up until I wiped at it with some soapy water, it just looked like natural spotting on the stem.

Perhaps this helpes, when I wipe it off, it leaves behind a yellow resitdue with tiny bits that I assume are the bugs...

Young mealy bugs?

Island Girl 09-14-2013 02:41 PM

Young aphids? (they come in all sorts of colors, to my knowledge... I've only ever seen green, yellowish, but there have been some clearish little ones). Don't know, but I agree with Dounoharm, just get something to kill them! And kill them all!! :coverlaugh:
