Paph. Vanda M. Pearman, Update last page

I just ordered one from a vendor. Would like to know if anyone here has had experiences with it, or if you are an expert at it.
:photo:
Pics of any that you have had is a plus!!! Thanks.

I read that this is a cross between P. bellatulum and P. delenatii????

Thanks all!!!

I've grown it, bloomed it and killed it. My plants were made with the old line bred delenatiis from France and probably weren't as vigorous as the new crosses. It's been several years since I had the plants.
Also the colors should be better with the new crosses.
I don't have any photos, but the flowers are very nice.

So why did you kill it?
Thanks for the reply!

Also, researching it online brought up Dr. Tanaka's name. Interesting.

Basically to grow orchids is to learn how to lose them....
It's all a part of the learning process, and everyone loses some plants along the way....I don't remember specifically about this plant, but for me brachys are not easy. Repotting is the most important factor in my opinion. If you are lazy with giving the plants fresh mix at least every 2 years the roots will rot. If you have a busy life style and a lot of plants that just doesn't work very well for the plants.

I think you are talking about a little beauty like this...

Wow!!! Woo-hoo!!! I hope mine blooms!
Thanks Dave.

I got mine bright and early this morning in tip top shape. Very carefully packaged. This one has the best looking foliage as compared to all my other orchids! Pics to come tonight.
Sending out a Thanks to Littlefrog!

I grow both bellatulum and delenatii. I find them to be good growers under warm temperature and the medium should have good aeration. Air circulation is important for these plants. They don't like wet conditions at night. That is what I find. I watering my plant by flooding the whole plant and blow off the excess water from the crown in the early morning. Temperatures in the day can reach 85 F and bright light seems to help the plant grow. At night the temperature goes down to 70 F and is very dry at night. A lot of people rot bellatulum due to high humdity at night with poor air circulation.

Thanks Paphman. Lets hope I don't rot mine.
I put it in my 29 gallon viv, I didnt stick it in deep in the planter below. Its just placed on top of the sphag. I have a computer fan inside this tank for good airflow, so Im hoping that enough. The temps in here reach 82 during the hot summer months, and I mist it down every two or three days. I can easily avoid wetting the plant during the misting setions so it stays dry, but in a humid (65%-80%) environment.
I hope it likes it in there.

Wow. That looks a lot better there than it ever did in the greenhouse... If I'd seen it presented like that I would have kept it. *grin* Did you shine the leaves?

Keep us in the loop as to how it does in the vivarium. I put one of that same batch into a new viv a few weeks ago, so we can compare notes. First time with this particular hybrid. For your records, I have absolutely no air movement in any of my vivs... Hasn't hurt so far. The newest one does have a little waterfall, though.

Tindomul 06-22-2006 11:43 PM

Too late, I got it now. hehe.
I didnt shine the leaves, but I was very impressed by them as they look like the leaf is encased in glass. It was amazing to look at.
If, lets hope, it ever spikes on me, do you think it has enough head room or should I bring it down a bit?
