So.. i feel like posting today :D
I got this orchid about three weeks ago and it was already in bloom( so i cant take credit for that). I just love it. When i ordered it online it said it doesnt have a fragrance. BUT surprise surprise :) It smells so sweet and wonderful :) and the funny part is, i detect smell only in the morning and it is stronger when the sun is shining on her :) is this common? I was also wondering. Do you water your Cats, Laelias with fertilizer when they are in bloom or not? do the flowers last longer if you water just with fresh water? regards gregor |
That's a beautiful cattleya! You can continue to water and fertilize at the same rate as before. The only study that I've ever seen on that was done on phalaenopsis. That study showed that blooming phals stayed in bloom a little bit longer when they were fertilized regularly. Cattleyas don't bloom for as long as phals but, in my experience, the blooms last just as long whether you fertilize or not. I would restrain from giving strong doses of fertilizer simply because it's in a blooming cycle and probably doesn't need a lot of fertilizer.

Lovely!
Yes, it's usual for some orchids to have a strong fragrance in the morning and/or when sun hits the plant, and fragrance fades as the day wears on. Some others are only fragrant in the dark. |
Thank you all ! :)
Yes i knew that some orchids are fragrant only in the dark. But i didn't know that some of them are only fragrant in the sun. Very interesting i have to say! Regards Gregor |
Hi,
It is a lovely hybrid and to me appears as though it is a Dialaeliai hybrid ( Like Dia laelia Apple Blossom). veekay |
Very nice shape and colors!
