Did I kill my Masdevallia Copper Angel

Ok
little sad here, I did buy this one in June, it was in little pot, and doing ok, in our hot Florida summer. Than I thought let's experiment, I got hand of these cooling pots, that I could mount it from the outside, and they keep it much cooler, which I figure would be better for mu dracula and Masdevallia as well. So i did, and this is what has happened to my copper angel in last 7 days. Roots are looking still good, but leaves are rapidly going down the hill:(
My other Masdevallia in basket is doing pretty good. Is there any chance this one will survive? I guess that mounting change was not best idea for this one:(

Masd. Copper Angel is Masd. veitchiana x Masd. triangularis; essentially you have a cool/cold terrestrial grower crossed with a cool-warm growing epiphyte; it looks to me like you gave this plant a combination of too much sun, too little humidity and too much heat. IMHO, just about any cross made with veitchiana performs best when it is grown potted and in cool temps. If I were to try to save this one, the first thing that I would do would be put it in straight up sphagnum moss (potted), and move it to a location with high humidity (85%+) and cool day/night temps (mid 70's day, low 50's night); during this time, expect to see some leaf loss; water with either distilled or RO water, do not give the plant any fertilizer and make sure that you are providing adequate air circulation around the plant--you want a cool humid environment, not a cool stagnant one.
Good luck and keep us posted,
Adam

I haven't had this one long, but I'm growing mine in porous clay pots in the same way as I grow it's parent veitchiana.

I don't think the cool pot should have caused a problem as effectively that's the same as I do with porous clay pots and the roots just love clinging to the clay inside the pot. I've not tried mounted (I grow inside the clay pot), I wonder if it's got much too try being outside rather than inside the pot, mine like to stay moist all the time.

Mine get higher light than they are meant to but probably not as much as you could get in Florida. I don't know if that is a problem for it or not.

Thank you very much. This is the intel, I bought it from seller growing it in California, so it was used to some hotter temps, as I was informed. Also, it iss getting only RO water, both watering inside cooling pot, misting, and even ice I make to add into the inside pot every night is from RO water. Also, for my masdevallias and dracula, ever single night, I do prepare big deep tray with ice, and than put oven wire rack and they sit on the top to get at least some temperature difference. This plant, even when mounted is still in the bunch of tight sphagnum, as you could maybe see, roots are fine and kept moist. I know that this baby does not love so much our temperatures, but I wanted to try some masdevallias, and with my talk to sellers, both of mine came from warmer growers, and one even from some direct sun. Copper Angel did not get any direct sun what so ever, kept in the shade, I mist several times a day, our humidity now in the summer is around 80% constantly. So, pretty much except temperature that i just can't do much, except that night cooling system I have, there are good conditions. Will see, I will try to pot it back to tight pot with sphagnum and hope it will be recover. My other Masdevallia Red Wing is doing really good, both of them purchased at the same time and growing exactly the same way, outside, except Red Wing is huge and is in wooden basket.

Ok, did get new pot for it today, moved it from cooling pot and put into the sphagnum. Will see, I still see pretty great roots and also some new green leaves pushing up, so I hope it will get out of this shock, loose all the brown leaves and start to grow again, fingers crossed here.

Good roots and new leaves sounds good anyway. Good luck!
