leaves w/yellow and black spots

Hi everyone,
Two of my Onc. Sharry Baby leaves are yellow with black spots. The first leaf began to discolor several days ago then became partially dry. Leaf #2 followed the same pattern shortly afterwards but it hasn't gotten to the point of showing any dry areas yet. Also, the plant is spiking (approx. 2 1/2') above the most damaged leaf. What do you think the problem is and how should I treat it?

I would appreciate your thoughts and advice,
Vicki

I am not sure hopefully some one with more knowledge might be able to help. Check the roots just to make sure...would be my first guess.

Not sure, I would cut the damage leafs, and rinse with physan 20 or eight. I would also treat your other plants near it, just in case.

Is it just old foliage that looks like this?

As one member says, it is fungal and I see your other plants in the greenhouse have the same issues.

Spray. More ventilation and higher light. reduce humidity if too high.
cut away the spotted portion of the leaves. Black spots are the asexual stage of the fungus. Soon they will grow up and start shedding spores everywhere ready to attack other plants.

Do not leave any dead leaves on the floor. Sanitation is very important as well.

I agree with NY, and this link will help: I would suggest, starting on page 29. http://www.houstonorchidsociety.org/...ySueBottom.pdf

Here is a chart for what fungicides can be used for what problem: (it's the one in the PDF, but it's hard to read it there) http://www.staugorchidsociety.org/PD...idDiseases.pdf

Good Luck! I hope you can cure your orchids of this fungus!

Thanks, Liz...
I brought it inside from the greenhouse as soon as I noticed the problem. I didn't know what to use to treat the plant with or the ones near it, but I did cut the leaves that were damaged then applied cinnamon to the cut edges.

Yes, Sonya..the leaves with the damage are older ones.

What do you suggest that I spray it with...as well as the other plants that were near it?

Thanks for your advice,
Vicki
