1 Attachment(s)
Pics are below...but 2 leaves have turned yellow. Should i cut them off? Wondering what im doing wrong? I water it once a week (every tuesday) and i really dont think its getting too much sun. The leaves never feel warm to the touch. I have fed it once since having it (been about a month and a half) any advice?

Also, the blooms are wilting which ive been expecting them too so i will cut them off but the buds are drooping also? Is this normal? Pic below

Did you re-pot once you got it? I have found that the orchids i get and or find are in awful yucky stuff. But your roots look healthy to me; but I will say I am far from being the expert.

Yes i repotted it. This is a pic of what it looked like when hubby got it for me...
Ps i dont know why my pics keep going sideways :( |
Looks like you have 3 plants in that 1 pot
It's normal for the lower leaves to yellow and come off... but seeing as it looks like 2 at once that could be an issue. The flowers fade over time and if very warm... however because the plant is loosing buds then something is definitely up. Bizarrely if they are near ripe fruit this can cause the buds to do that, it may also be caused by being moved around a lot? kindrag23 also raised a fair point, have you looked at the roots since bringing it home? Were they solid and firm? The plant pot seems to be in a container, do you drain the container of any excess water after you water on Tuesdays? Lots and lots of questions! More you can tell us easier it will be to try and narrow down what's happening. :) |
Glad I am not the only one who's pics post side ways and kratos I am glad you said that I was wondering if it were several plants together. But I could just not tell. Also when you say you water once a week do you soak it really well like in a tupperware dish or something similar for some time? I soak mine in a dish pan for 15 min or longer. To make sure they are really well soaked for a week. What kind of fertilizer do you use as well. Lime Kratos says lots of questions.

I agree with those postings above, we need a lot more info.
Does the new pot have drainage holes for the water? How does the lower portion of the roots look? I know you said you water once a week, but how do you water (misting, a good soak)? From the pics it looks like some of the other leaves are dehydrated. The buds are probably dropping because it was repotted and it's in a new environment. |
Flowering takes a huge toll on the health of the plant and with this many flower spikes I would say it is in very poor health right now. Since phals have no pbulb most of their reserves of energy are in the roots and the leaves. Phals like this have been forced into blooming and the conditions it came from in the growing house are not the same as our homes. I seldom see phals which are flowering like this to be able to maintain that kind of vigor for long. Cut off all the flower spikes, repot into new media, and place in a medium level of light. Let it recuperate. More of the leaves are going to droop and probably drop off before this recuperates. Patience is the word here. Do not over water or soak for long periods. Get some of Rays kelp stuff and use it as per the directions.

Are these Ice Cube's i see in the Picture??? If yes-thats a big Mistake-You put your warm loving orchids into Shock with the ice cubes. No wonder the Blooms are wilting.Only use tepit water for your orchids.Please.

The pot it is in now has lots of drain holes. When i water it i run the faucet water through it for a couple of minutes. When i first got it i did mess with it quite a bit (checked roots, cut rotted ones off, moved it quite a bit trying to find the right pot) the "pot" its in now is not really a pot because i couldnt find a clear one at any of the stores around here. Its actually a tall pot "liner" that i cut holes in. Some one suggest a shallow pot to put this in so i figured it might work. Also, theres no fruit around the plant...the fruit that we have is in the fridge. I stopped using the ice cubes after i took this pic and started reading this site by the way ;) i used the miracle grow orchid fertilizer the one time i did feed it. Pic below is what the roots looked like while i repotted it...i hope this answered everyones questions!
