What is that?

My Orchid has a leave that has what looks like water drops under the leave on the edge. What's that? Please can someone tell me ?
|
could be insect egg sacs. I don't think I could positively ID it even with a picture, but I'd remove it with a cloth.
|
I have some phrags that do that. Don't know the reason for it, but they seem happy so I don't worry about it. I think someone here once called it happy sap or happy juice.

When your plant is happy and well watered the leaves will "perspire." Nothing to worry about!
|
Yes, many orchids produce this sap. My Phals do under their leaves around the edge. But certain bugs can leave sticky stuff too. As long as you don't see any bugs and your plant is healthy don't worry about it. When I first saw this Happy Sap I thought I had bugs but found out it was normal. Good luck!

The plant has a (new) spike about 4-5 inches long. Many new leaves and air roots galore. This plant gave me flowers non stop since January. I recently repotted it and it's very healthy until I saw that dew or whatever that is. I'm afraid to touch it. I haven't seen bugs no. BUT I have few times seen what looks like MOSQUITOS, flying about and very few. But they aren't always there.

It's looks normal. I wouldn't worry about it.

My phals do this too! Glad to hear it can be normal as long as no insects are involved.
|
I'm guessing the mosquito things are gnats.

Orchid sap and sweet too. Take a taste. Some say it is just from osmotic pressure in the plants vascular system and others say it is from bugs biting the leaf. I don't come anywhere near over-watering my plants and yet this is common. Especially on new and growing flower sheaths. But, really, taste it. It is quite delicious.
