Hi,

I have my very first three Phals and I'm learning as much as I can about them and how to take care of them.

One of them is ill! It has holes in the leaves, one bid black spot which seams to be growing, one of the leaves turned yellow almost over night, and I just discovered behind one of the petals what seems to be tiny eggs, placed in straight lines.

The flowers are almost gone and in comparison with the other two, it looks really stressed. Can you please help me?

Thank you so much!!

Bego

Welcome to Orchid Board :welcome:

The hole in the second photo is nothing to worry about. Looks like what we call 'mechanical' damage, basically something external has cut into the leaf and then the cut has dried and split. It could be it got knocked by something, or the leaf trapped somewhere.

The mark on the first picture is more concerning but I can't quite make out what it is. Hope someone else can help.

Hey Rosie!!

Thanks so much for your welcoming response!!

After much investigation, I finally found a similar picture; it's bacteria :(. The solution was to remove the damaged area and apply antibacterial... The leaf was very damaged, so I cut it off (also the yellow one) and applied Listerine to all the plant. So far it's looking good :)!!!

Best regards!!

Glad you found an answer, and it sounds a good move to have cut it off. Good luck, hope the rest of the plant now does well for you

Copper fungicide works well too. Just don't get it on the roots if you can help it. I mix a tiny bit of the powdered stuff into any of my stored potting mediums, because it will prevent fungal and bacterial growths.

Hey everyone! I have bad news about my ill Phal... It keeps getting worst... I trimmed all the rotten roots, yesterday I gave it a Hydrogen Peroxyde bath. I let it sit for about 5-8 minutes and the reaction was (disgusting) impressive! It started with a lot of bubbles that turned into a yellowish foam that spilled from the tall glass... then I applied cinnamon to the cut roots and the crown and let it dry all night. Today I applied some Hydro Perox and again got a lot of bubbles from the crown... I took this picture, showing the bottom of the only leaf left, which is turning yellow and the crown. Can you please advice course of treatment? The roots look well. Or is it a goner :(:(:(?

Thank you so much!!

I'm sorry to say, there isn't anything you can do for this guy... :( I'm Sorry.

I can't believe how much bubbling came from the peroxide! I've never seen a plant do that... For it to have bubbled that much, there must be a really bad infection going on... So make sure you don't let any of your other orchids/plants come into contact with this one... Either via first-hand direct contact, or by second-hand (u touching the leaf on this one, then touching another; or using tools from one plants to another - like blades, or scissors). If you think that might have happened, then 'sanitize' your other plants w/ listerine, or peroxide.
