Warblers!!!! - Spring Migrants 1st page, Fall Migrants page 3

So, Instead of spending my time buying orchids and talking about them and reading about them (as I usually do) I was cheating on the Orchid Board with birds.

Warblermania!!!!
I was birding alot and trying hard to get some decent pics of the birds here in NYC. I wanted to share the pics I got of the Warblers. All pictures were taked in NYC or Nassau County or not too far upstate NY.
I hope others here can relate.

Here is one of the earlier warblers to migrate though the City.

You certainly know your Warblers. Good shooting! You have a good steady hand.

Thanks all for the kind comments, looks like pics for two species didn't come out as planned so I just edited the first post now. Now you can see the Yellow Warbler and the Black-throated Blue Warbler (to balance out the yellows).

Wow~ Amazing!
They are all so cute too!
I especially love the Yellow-throated Warbler and the all yellow one. looks kind of like a canary.

How come I don't ever see anything other than pigeons and common sparrows? :p

I thought Warbler was that shiny black birds with some brightly colored spots all over on them. They usually hang out on the lawn everywhere in the city.
didn't realize there are so many different kinds of warblers.

So neat!!!

Speaking of birding, I'm not a bird watcher but I do like them.
Last Saturday afternoon, I was having a picnic with a friend in a neighborhood community garden.
I saw this red cardinal bird flying around, eventually landed on the lawn. It was chasing after a big green bug. a few tag and run, then finally caught the bug while both were flying in the air about one foot above the lawn.
It all happened in just a few seconds but I was in awe! I wish I could have it recorded.

Ok, I was way off.
I just remembered that those common black birds that I thought were warblers are actually European Starling. lol

Tindomul 07-28-2013 12:06 AM

Thanks NYCOrchidman. Central Park is really great place to see the birds. The Warblers are not uncommon in late April through late May. After that you get just a few species that breed in NYC. Then they come back from Sept to Oct. After that they head to South America and don't return till April.

Cardinals are probably our brightest coloured bird that sticks around all year.
The shiny black birds with spots are European Starlings. Introduced to Central Park from Europe because someone came up the dumb idea of filling Central Park with all the birds mentioned in the works of Shakespear. That also included pigeons and house sparrows (aka English Sparrows). These birds displace our natives.
