new Phaleanopsis blooms have yellow tinge

I'm new to the board so hello to all. I'm retired and live in Northern Virginia. For Mother's Day I was given a lovely Phaleonopsis , my first ever orchid. It has white blooms with reddish veining. It has two new blooms but what should be white, has a yellowish tinge. What am I doing wrong? I water with filtered well water and use the spray food as directed. It sits in a west facing window and the temperature is in the low 80s. Thanks for any suggestions.

If the blooms have just very recently opened, the color may become whiter shortly.

Do they look ok otherwise?

Welcome to Orchid Board. As Sonya says, flowers can change colour slightly after opening. Often white flowers can have a slight tinge that fades with time.

Thanks so much. The blooms have been open about a week or so and they are still yellow. I'll continue waiting and watching. The blooms are fine otherwise.
Again, thanks!

Temperatures while buds are developing can affect bloom color. Usually, in colored flowers, cooler temps result in deeper or more saturated color.

Strength of / amount of light can affect some colors - expected green blooms can turn out white, cream, pale yellow if plant receives high light while buds are developing.

I don't know if or how either factor may affect white blooms ...

In a West facing window they are getting the hottest light of the day. Is the light filtered or direst? What color are the leaves? Have they changed in color?

:hello and welcome!

I don't know what could be going on with your plant, I have a phal that when the flowers open, they are a very soft green color, as the flowers mature about 2-3 weeks they turn yellow with lite green, then they drop off. So I don't know if that may be similar to what happens to a white flower one.

Thank you all for your continued interest in my "yellowed" white and red Phal. The leaves are still their original green color and the light from the west window is filtered through tree leaves and a less than spotless window! Still watching to see if the blooms turn any whiter with age but nothing yet. Thanks. patricia
