Orchid Wiz

Who has Orchid Wiz? I looked at it online and it seems to be an awesome resource! Who has it? Would you mind offering reviews? Thank you!

There is a 30 day free trial version of the Express edition. You can download it and give it a whirl.

I wouldn't be without it.

I have it and love using it. There is still so much more information on the program that I still have not gotten to. If you are into orchids and want to delve into the backgrounds of today's plants I would recommend getting it. It is very helpful if you want to look up information for past awarded plants & Culture info. I was traveling to South America and wanted to know what grew in the country I would be visiting. They were all listed. Of course when I was going it was not the best blooming time but I did get to see some. Will I continue the yearly update plan...yes!

I love using it. I have my wish list on there and a journal with all my info on every orchid I own. I use it before I buy any orchid as I can usually find photos of it and some details before I buy it. Most of the species have the detailed Baker's cultural info included. I find it to be a great resource.

My wife and I both find ourselves using it constantly. It's one of our top 4 or 5 go-to orchid research resources.

It's not cheap, but we think it's worth it. We haven't used the Express version ourselves, so I can't comment on it, but that's one way to reduce the cost.

Also, Alex has at times offered pretty significant discounts to societies that do group purchases of some number of copies (that's how we first got it).

There used to be a discount for Orchid Board members too.

Marty can probably ask them to redo the discount coupon- they did last time I asked about it a couple of years ago.

It is a good (for some things, great) resource, but I find the annual renewal costs quite onerous (indeed, I would rapidly end up spending more on it than plants). To be honest, unless you're extremely into orchids, it's overkill.

There probably still is, though I'm not sure. You used to be able to contact the guy who writes/sells it and say you are from Orchid Board and get a code to use at the checkout. The code lasts about a month and people who got the code would then post it here for others to see.

If you are wanting to buy then it's worth contacting him to find out if there is still a code available.

I have the express version and it is plenty for me, and I have probably 500 orchids. It gives me quite a bit more information than I need.
